Bold Beauty
This is my new latest drawing. It's a copy [NOT TRACED] of the cover of Bold Beauty, from the Winnie the Horse Gentler series. The only things I used were: paper, soft pencil, blending stick, and kneaded eraser.
I have to say that you are great for your age! I love that you pay attention to some of the shading others overlook.
There is the feeling of movement and weight in this piece. You have the right proportions of the horse too. Did you have a reference?
And some advice that I have found helpful; use chamois for blending [pronounced shammy]. It blends so more more evenly and allows for a smoother finish. As you probably know, blending sticks wear down and don't blend well after a while. You can wash your chamois and it's like new again. =]
You might also like to experiment with different pencils. I reccommend ebony for most shading, and carbon [which is like charcoal, but it has oil, so it's a really smooth jet black], for darker areas.
Thank you. I did use a refrence; it was the cover of a book, but basicly just a picture. I also drew it upside-down, which seems to help me get the proportions right. Actually, the artwork itself is really smooth but my scanner is, shall we say, not the best in the market. My parents bought it for it's printing capabilities. The real drawing also has a sky. I'll definitly think about and probably try ebony and chamois for shading and blending! Thanks for all the tips!
"If you judge people, you have no time to love them." ~Mother Teresa
Walls
Friends are like walls; sometimes you lean on them and sometimes it’s just enough to know they're there.
Friends forever
No jewel is priceless, no gem will last forever, for here on earth, the only thing that is priceless is a true friend and the only thing that will last forever is the memory of a true friend.
Song
"A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words."
To Be A Friend
A single smile, a helping hand. It's not that hard to be a friend.
friends
"A true friend reaches for your hand and touches your heart."
Love
It takes a minute to meet someone, an hour to know them, a day to love them, but it takes a lifetime to forget them.
Stars
"Good friends are like stars; you don't allways see them, but you know they are always there." ~Unknown
friendship
"The only unsinkable ship is friendship."
A friend
A friend is one who knows your faults, yet finds your virtues, too.
Painting
"I dream a lot. I do more painting when I'm not painting. It's in the subconscious." ~Andrew Wyeth
